Photovoltaic installation in accordance with the national regulations of the design service life of solar photovoltaic modules is usually considered to be 25 years, which is based on the photovoltaic module in the 25-year service period, its output power attenuation generally does not exceed 20% of the original power to determine the standard. However, in practical applications, many photovoltaic power plants can still continue to generate electricity after more than 25 years, but the efficiency of power generation will be reduced.


According to some practical cases, for example, a photovoltaic power station in Gansu province is still generating electricity after 40 years of operation, although its power generation efficiency has declined. In addition, a photovoltaic power station in Switzerland has been in operation for more than 40 years, which shows that under proper maintenance and environmental conditions, the service life of photovoltaic modules can be far beyond the 25-year design standard.

It is worth noting that the service life of photovoltaic modules not only depends on their initial quality and manufacturing process, but also is affected by a variety of factors such as later maintenance, use environment and climate. For example, components can be affected by temperature changes, UV exposure, mechanical stress, and environmental contaminants.


With the continuous progress of photovoltaic technology and the application of new materials, photovoltaic installation believes that the service life of photovoltaic modules is expected to be further extended in the future. At the same time, the recycling and reuse of photovoltaic modules has also become an important issue to ensure the sustainable development of the photovoltaic industry.
